2001 Tasting Notes Hacienda Secoya was the most devastated by frost of all of our vineyards. What fruit was left, yielded a scant one barrel of wine yet again! We have not utilized whole clusters to date on this wine since it consistently exudes great complexity on its own. Once yields are more substantial, we may begin trials, but then again we may not. The purity of fruit this vineyard exhibits, with its beautiful floral components, perhaps begs to just let it be. We hope you find it as compelling as we do. (19 cases produced) Spice, cola, anise and light cedar add to the fresh strawberry aromatics upon opening. Picks up cherry cream and the tell tale dried rose petals this vineyard seems to exhibit with aeration. Rose petals carry to the pallet becoming almost potpourri like marrying well with the candied cranberry/red raspberry fruit. Finishes with dusty ripe tannins and firm mouth watering acidity. |
