2006 Alder Springs Syrah - 14.7% alc.

This is our first release from this great Syrah site. Made famous by the likes of Pax and Behrens & Hitchcock, owner Stew Bewley has given us some great syrah selections from his vineyard from Spirit Rock planting. In an effort to create something unique for Copain, Stew has given us some singular selections of rootstocks like 161-49 and SQR married with different clones of syrah like 300 and 525 which are not widely planted anywhere in the US. These along with clone 174 have made for a really fantastic wine and a different expression of Alder Spring Vineyard. Fermented with 70%+ whole cluster and aged in 20% new french oak for 15 months. Baking spice/Pain Epice, Creme de Mure and green peppercorn aromas exude from the glass. Sweet Floral notes in the mouth, with coating fresh blackberry, dark chocolate and dusty firm tannins on the finish. Even with all the whole cluster the tannins are supple in texture and balanced with sound acidity. Drinkable now with time in the glass short term cellaring is recommended and the wine should keep well for 8-10 years.
