Eaglepoint Ranch is a 74 acre vineyard owned by John Scharffenerger and Casy Hartlip.  This vineyard sits in the middle of nearly 3 square miles of upland range and timberland.  The vineyard is broken up into 29 separate blocks and grows 6 different varieties of grapes.  The numerous exposures and trellis systems all at very high elevation (1800 ft) make for very intense farming.  Probably the most important ingredient is the soil.  It is moderately fertile, decomposed sandstone, with veins of "timber red" loam as well as upland pasture soil types.

Like many of the finest vineyards of Europe, the vines have a more challenged existence.  Crop load is kept at moderate levels either naturally or by manual thinning, yielding fruit with extreme concentration and intense varietal character.
