2012 Kiser 'En Haut' Pinot Noir

The upper parcel of our flagship Kiser vineyard continues to produce some of our most compelling and elegant Pinot Noir. With aromas of dark cherry, violets and roses, the Kiser 'En Haut' maintains the finesse and grace of previous vintages. The palate is nuanced with rich plum, white tea, and chamomile with layers of dried leaves and crushed stone. Silky and seductive, this is truly deserving of its reputation as one of our most sought-after Pinots.

Situated 200 feet above the ‘En Bas’ parcel, the higher Kiser ‘En Haut’ possesses more compressed sandstone than the lower block, and enjoys further depth from bands of schist permeating the soil. The combination of the two components gives the wine heady aromatics and notable minerality in both aroma and flavor.

The 2012 vintage was a welcome relief following the challenges of 2010 and 2011. A wet winter was balanced by a moderate, slightly dry spring, with bud break and veraison occurring several weeks later than usual. Bestowing optimal conditions for slow, even ripening, a long Indian summer extended into early October. Harvest commenced approximately two weeks later than previous years, and was condensed into a few short weeks, with all of our fruit in by November 1.
