2011 Kiser En Haut Pinot Noir
The upper parcel of our flagship Kiser vineyard continues to yield some of our brightest and most feminine fruit. The 2011 Kiser ‘En Haut’ Pinot Noir maintains the grace, finesse, and consummate elegance of previous vintages. Soft, lovely, and nuanced, this is truly deserving of its reputation as one of our most seductive and sought-after Pinots.
Situated 200 feet above the ‘En Bas’ parcel, the higher Kiser ‘En Haut’ possesses more compressed sandstone than the lower block, and enjoys further depth from bands of schist permeating the soil. The combination of the two components gives the wine heady aromatics and notable minerality in both aroma and flavor.
Despite the challenges that 2011 brought to Anderson Valley, our wines from this vintage are some of the most elegant Wells has made, offering great tension and balance. A cool, rainy spring and summer delayed the growing season, while mid-September brought sun and 90 degree heat to the vineyards. We harvested this fruit during a brief window in October as the vineyards were drying out.
