High Rock Ranch is located at 1200' elevation, and the vines are planted in a melange of rocky soils. This is one of our most outstanding Syrahs with savory aromatics complimenting graphite and blackberry flavors on the palate.

Vintage Notes:

The 2016 growing season had an early start partly due to winter and spring rains, which were a welcome reprieve to the drought conditions of 2012—2015. Furthermore, the warm and dry summer also contributed to the early than normal start to harvest. That being said, we had a nice, even keeled growing season with little adversity.

Vineyard Notes:

High Rock Ranch rests 19 miles from the Pacific coast and is located in a unique geological area known as the “Yorkville Schist”. The soil is similar to the steep hillsides in Northern Rhone Valley in Southern France. The vineyard experiences significant diurnal temperature variation where daytime temperatures promote ripening while cool evening temperatures preserve acidity levels of the Syrah. High Rock Ranch is planted at 1200 feet above sea level and is a close neighbor of another vineyard we work with: Hawks Butte. The southwest aspect of the vineyard allows the vines to enjoy warm afternoon suns with occasional cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean

Wine Profile:

Aromas: Dried cranberry, dried fig, sanguine, wet stone

Palate: Full bodied on the palate with flavors of blackberry, lavender, graphite, ground peppercorn and tobacco
