2010 Kiser En Bas Pinot Noir
With sumptuous fruit and exquisite structure, the 2010 Kiser ‘En Bas’ is a
captivating wine of stunning depth and complexity. Both lush and refined, this
bottling boasts a remarkable harmony and purity of fruit that will only continue
to enhance, evolve, and excite for many years to come.
Roughly ten miles from the ocean, the flagship Kiser Vineyard is located in the
“Deep End” of Anderson Valley and is our coolest site, yielding small amounts
of intensely flavored fruit. The vineyard has two distinctive blocks, each with
different soils, and we bottle them separately as the wines are vastly different.
Planted to dense, stony soils, the ‘En Bas’ is the lower portion of the vineyard.
2010 began with a delayed bud break, followed by an unseasonably chilly
vintage which facilitated slow ripening of the fruit. Despite a weeklong heat
spike, our vineyards escaped damage due to our canopy management
practice of limited leaf removal. Harvest began in late September, and in
certain vineyards, continued until early November. Our 2010 wines show pretty
aromatics, supple tannins and sound acidity.
