THE VINEYARD

This estate vineyard is located 1400' above Santa Rosa at the very top of Taylor Mountain. It lies at the intersection of Sonoma Valley, Sonoma Coast and the Bennett Valley AVAs. A unique setting in that it is located, technically, in none of these AVAs. The most specific AVA for this vineyard, though more generic, is North Coast. Technicalities aside, this terroir is one of the most promising places for growing unique Cabernet Franc. Steep, rocky, volcanic soils with steadfast coastal breezes keeping temperatures cool throughout the sunny days during the summer.

THE INSPIRATION

Cabernet Franc was one of my first loves. I loved the varietal characteristics: bell pepper, rustic in nature, intense buy not heavy-handed. I swore to someday make Cabernet Franc in California. Today, I am very excited to introduce Cabernet Franc to the Copain range. You'll find this wine to be very much "California" and wit ha little nod to the wines of the Loire Valley.

THE PALATE

On the nose, pipe tobacco, plum, and blackberry exude from the glass. Flavors of clove, black pepper and spice line this deep, fruit-driven wine. A great balance between rustic, plush and fresh. This wine will continue to age for the next 10 years, but is quite a pleasure upon release.
