October Updates From the Hill

Dear Friends,

In the cellar here at Copain wines, we are currently wrapping up the 2021 harvest, and we are pleased with the way things went this year. Although yields were down in the vineyards, quality of the fruit was quite remarkable, and we look forward to seeing how the wines evolve throughout the aging process.

The pace of harvest this year was very concentrated. Normally, we harvest the Sonoma Coast vineyards then wait a week or so before the Anderson Valley starts to ripen. This year it all came at once! It made for a hectic crush, but we managed to keep all the balls in the air.

In the winery, we are currently putting our last ferments into barrels, organizing our cellar, fixing broken gear and of course, starting to assess the quality of the vintage through tasting each batch of wine. Temperatures have cooled and we are starting to welcome some much needed rain to our area. With this rain and the cooler temperatures, I've been enjoying our 2018 SeaLift Pinot Noir because its bolder flavors and heavier weight - it's the perfect Pinot for these cooler fall months.
