The Brosseau vineyard was planted in 1981 in the Chalone AVA in soil that is comprised of decomposed granite and limestone. The location of the vineyard, coupled with the age of the vines, produces a rounded wine with a surprising amount of weight.
A very cool growing season in 2018 allowed us to leisurely pick grapes over a long period of time. This cool weather allowed us to have many different wines picked at various levels of ripeness and flavor development, while maintaining ideal sugar levels.
Planted in 1981 and situated in the famed Chalone AVA made famous in the Judgement of Paris in 1976, the Brosseau vineyard was the first Chardonnay we produced in 2009. Planted in decomposed granite and limestone, coupled with the age of the vines, this vineyard produces a rounded wine with a surprising amount of weight.
As usual there is a resounding amount of complexity in this wine, with salinity and flinty minerality notes that are matched with hints of caramelized pineapple, Asian pear, tamarind zest, and honeycomb. This wine will be sure to please those who wish to enjoy now or allow this wine to evolve in the bottle for a few more years.
