From the the prestigious Maggy Hawk vineyard near Navarro, CA this wine has a fresh, vibrant palate and flavors of dried cranberry and cherry.
2019 was a mild growing season with a small moderate heat push toward the end of the growing season. That warmth really pushed fruit into a beautiful ripeness at the end, without pushing things too far. We can look forward to generous fruit in the wines along with great balance.
Named after the vineyard owner’s beloved horse, the Maggy Hawk vineyard is planted outside of the town of Navarro towards the northern border of Anderson Valley. This area is what’s known as the “deep-end” by the locals because of its proximity to the ocean and away from the more populous Boonville at the southern end. Mere miles from the Mendocino coastline, the vineyard enjoys prolonged fog cover during the mornings and evenings. The chilly nights help preserve the acidity in the grapes while the short yet intense sun exposure during the day allows for slow, optimal ripeness. Maggy Hawk is tucked away in the remote western hills and surrounded by centuries-old redwood trees.
Scents of minty, blackberry, spice and baked apple fly out of the glass. As the wine sees a little air blueberry, pennyroyal and ripe raspberry is unleased. Layers of Cedar, Pennyroyal, pomegranate, clove and Blood orange play together with a medium rich mouthfeel and elegantly woven backbone of acidity and light tannin.
