The 2021 growing season was marked by a dry winter where the North Coast received lower than normal
rainfall. This put vines at risk as there was very limited water in the soil. This triggered low vigor growth
in the vines and a low fruit yield. Ultimately, a cool summer was the saving grace, and the tiny clusters
were able to ripen evenly without experiencing dehydration which would lead to overwrought flavors. The
resulting wines are a bit more concentrated in flavor and color, and 2021 should prove to be a spectacular,
but unusual vintage.
