Sourced from a vineyard towering at 2,500 feet in elevation, this Halcon Syrah shows lifted floral, fig, and blackberry notes balanced with acidity to give this generous wine elegant structure.

Vintage Notes:

The 2012 vintage was a welcome relief following the challenges of 2010 and 2011. A wet winter was balanced by a moderate, slightly dry spring, with bud break and veraison occurring several weeks later than usual. Bestowing optimal conditions for slow, even ripening, a long Indian summer extended into early October. Harvest commenced approximately two weeks later than previous years, and was condensed into a few short weeks, with all of our fruit in by November 1.

Vineyard Notes:

At 2,500 feet above the valley floor in the Yorkville Highlands, this is the highest elevation vineyard in the Copain portfolio. The vines are planted directly into exposed schist, which is so thick that very little topsoil is evident in the vine rows.

Wine Profile:

Reverberating through every layer of the Halcon Syrah are the rocky, schist soils of this Yorkville Highlands vineyard. Dynamic and woodsy, this expressive Syrah is deeply concentrated, with brambly dark fruits and an alluring Alpine quality. An expressive nose of violets, eucalyptus, and crushed stone frame flavors of savory salted plum and fresh blackberries. The structure is brawny with smooth tannins, promising rewards to those with the patience to cellar this wine for several years.
